The aim of this exercise was to explore issues relating to institution and mediation. Students were encouraged to discuss how these resources illustrate how institutional ideology shapes representation. Students were encouraged to analyse each front page and discuss how text and image shape meaning. These skills relate to issues that will be examined in Section A of the examination paper.
Students were asked to consider The Cross-Media Study question:
'TO BE SUCCESSFUL, MEDIA INSTITUTIONS HAVE TO USE A VARIETY OF MEDIA PLATFORMS.' To what extent is this true of your cross-media study?
Discussion considered possible essay content. We will be discussing this title in more detail in next week's session. It might even be a timed essay!
The final section of the session was a task designed to develop the skills that relate to the first section of the examination paper. Click on links below to access resources:
Samsung Galaxy S3 Advert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR8A3T6sPzU

Apple I-phone 5 advert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvKyYeJJYwM
Class discussion was excellent today. There was lots of detail and relevant comment. This level of detail needs to be reflected within the written work you trendy hep cats!!
HOMEWORK: Complete the questions that link to the Samsung advert. Students can attempt a one hour timed response or spend a little more time on the task to ensure that the response is detailed and convincing.
STUDENTS MUST USE THE APPROPRIATE MEDIA LANGUAGE AND SUPPORT OPINION WITH SPECIFIC TEXTUAL REFERENCE.
Consider the cross-media question. It might be offered as a timed response next week....oh the horror.
