YEAR 12 LESSON TWENTY-FOUR [18th March 13]: Homework.

This session was a consideration of MEST1 Section A. Students discussed the text before producing a timed response.
Resource for MEST 1 SECTION A:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=522KkWPcwDA
1. How are media forms [or media language] used to engage the viewer?
2. How is the audience represented?
3. What is the aim of the institution?
4. Who is the target audience?

HOMEWORK: CREATE COURSEWORK.

PRINT MEDIA. Creative use of photography.

Students need to be aware that the board encourage creative use of photography so a simple image with simple text will simply receive a grade that simply reflects its simplistic nature. SIMPLE.
Below are three examples of a more creative use of photography. All are very simple ideas but are not just one image anchored with a basic use of text. Remember, the examiner needs to see your skills.

Perhaps those students who are exploring the thriller genre could make use of images captured using a slow shutter speed to capture movement and consider layering two or three of these images to create one image. If a teaser poster contains ONE STRIKING VISUAL IMAGE, the image needs to be visually interesting. Use of text also needs to display some creative skills.

Brand believes celebrity culture keeps us stupid!! It is a distraction from the serious issues that society should be discussing. great interview.

Remember Evie...this is basically a media influence essay so you must deal with media theory and debate the potential influence of Celebrity Culture. So you have to define Celebrity Culture, discuss why people view its influence as being negative, discuss media theory and explore various theories of media influence, and move to a conclusion. Can Celebrity Culture have a positive influence? Can media theory suggest that an audience can benefit from celebrity culture?

YEAR 12 LESSON TWENTY-THREE [11th March 13]: Homework.

Students discussed the cross-media study. The question used to generate and focus the class discussion was:
'IS THE MEDIA DUMBING DOWN?' Evaluate this question in relation to the media texts in your case study.
The class then attempted a timed essay in the final hour of the session.

HOMEWORK: COMPLETE COURSEWORK. A lot of people are promising me that they are constructing their work but this group does have a history of ..er....TALL TALES.
Please ensure that you are constructing your work. Next week is deadline time.

YEAR 12 LESSON TWENTY-TWO [4th March 13]: Homework.

Students were asked to consider the Cross-Media Study question:
HOW FAR HAVE IMPROVEMENTS IN TECHNOLOGY MADE A DIFFERENCE TO THE AUDIENCE EXPERIENCE?
The first hour of the session was a BIG class discussion and the final hour was a timed response. This was a BIG essay as the last batch of cross-media essays were disappointing. Class discussion was impressive. I hope this insight and enthusiasm is reflected in the written work.

HOMEWORK: Coursework. Coursework. Coursework.

YEAR 13 LESSON TWENTY-TWO [27th Feb 13]: Homework.

Students discussed the question:
'THE IMPACT OF DIGITAL MEDIA HAS BEEN EXTREMELY NEGATIVE.'
To what extent do you agree with this statement?
The first hour of the session was an exploration of possible essay content and the second hour offered the gift of a timed response. Oh you lucky students....
