When we discuss media bias and consider how media bias can be challenged, it is important to consider the power of the advertising industry. Read these resources below:

YEAR 13 6th Oct 17.

Here are the front pages of the mainstream UK press the day after Theresa May's speech at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester. What do these front pages tell us about the mainstream British print media?

This session explored issues linked to UK MAINSTREAM PRINT MEDIA and its obvious political bias. In the next session we will be producing a written response to the question:
What do we learn about the UK Mainstream print media from the reaction to Theresa May's speech?
This written response will be 'in class' and will consider specific textual reference to analyse how media forms are shaping meaning and will also consider media theory. Students will be asked to consider if we deserve a more balanced political narrative from the mainstream media.

I thought it was really interesting that different students perceived this BBC Newsnight report in different ways. Some believed it to bias against the Conservatives, some too bias toward the Conservative Party, and some believed it offered an example of balanced journalism. VERY INTERESTING. This experiment underlines the difficulty facing the reporting of politics by the BBC. Bel;ow is a link to the Newsnight resource.
