YEAR 12 LESSON FOUR..20th Sept 2016.

At the beginning of the session I handed students some MEDIA THEORY notes. Here are some extra resources to aid understanding of media theory:
Hypodermic needle theory:
Two-Step Flow Theory:
The Uses and Gratifications Theory:
Reception Theory:
Cultivation Theory:
Media influence ONE:
Media influence TWO:

The main focus of the lesson was an analysis of the EMBRACE road safety advert that was an exam next in Jan 2013. Click on link below:
Class discussion considered possible content for the FOUR questions on the exam paper.
Here is a much more graphic example of a 'seatbelt' road safety advert. Here you go George!!
Which text contains the most powerful message?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKHY69AFstE

HOMEWORK: Watch the EMBRACE text as students will be asked to produce a timed response in the next session. Also, students need to digest the MEDIA THEORY resources as a sophisticated understanding of how media works will only be possible if students are aware of the various academic theories that link to MEDIA INFLUENCE.

YEAR 13 LESSON FOUR...19th Sept 16.

Today's session considered content for the essay:
EVALUATE WHETHER NDM OFFERS A THREAT OR AN OPPORTUNITY FOR MEDIA PRODUCERS.
Students must be aware of how the BBC have adapted to the digital world and WHY Rupert Murdoch's The Daily failed! Students also need to research WHY MYSPACE failed and why Murdoch's use of  PAYWALLS is problematic. Students also need to be aware of how NDM has revolutionised the music industry.

YEAR 12 LESSON TWO...13th Sept 16

Today's session explored how media forms are used to shape meaning. Students were introduced to media terminology such as diegetic sound, non-diegetic sound, disequilibrium, enigma codes, denotation, connotation, frame composition etc....
The texts used in the session were:
A student film made by a previous Year 12 group:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFOcrZeMRUU
Class discussion considered how media forms are used to shape meaning and the significance of CONNOTATION.

HOMEWORK:
Students need to offer a written response to the following question when considering how meaning is being shaped in the Barnardos advert:
HOW ARE MEDIA FORMS USED TO SHAPE MEANING?
Students need to use media language when considering how meaning is being shaped. The use of diegetic sound and text are important within this text. Students need to focus upon key moments that shape the most significant connotation.

YEAR 13 LESSON THREE..15th Sept 2016

This session contained a HUGE class discussion that considered possible content for the essay:

HOMEWORK:
