After an extended period of COURSEWORK related lessons, it was back to the EXAMINATION and a consideration of SECTION A. The class were asked to discuss the JANUARY 2013 Section A paper. The final lesson of the term discussed THE CROSS-MEDIA STUDY.

HOMEWORK: Students need to decide which texts will provide the focus of the Cross-Media work. Students need to select a film documentary and a Channel Four 'hybrid' documentary. Students need to use SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN and THE SECRET MILLIONAIRE as the Cross-Media template. If students decide to use SFSM as the film documentary, they need to select a different hybrid-documentary. Remember...the focus is how is the media text is promoted across key media platforms. You could choose from:
  • Gogglebox
  • 24 Hours in A and E.
  • Educating Yorkshire
  • One Born Every Minute
  • Born To Be Different
Explore the Channel Four site to identify a text that will allow you to produce a decent response. READ MY CROSS-MEDIA BOOKLET. The past exam questions can be found on the final page of the booklet. READ THESE QUESTIONS TO GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF THIS TASK.

OUR EASTER SESSION IS ON THE THURSDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK: 11.30/2.30. Please sign in at the office before entering the English Dept.

YEAR 12 LESSON 42/43/44 [10th/13th/17th March 15]: Homework.

NOTES FOR JOSH.....

Here are some resources that will allow you to construct the key area of your essay. This is THE COMMUNICATIONS DATA BILL/Ed SNOWDEN moment.

RIPA:

Snowden:
http://www.computerworlduk.com/blogs/open-enterprise/gchq-revelations-destroy-case-for-snoopers-charter-3569378/

The whole point of this section Josh is that the debate relating to RIPA or The Draft Communications Bill..is largely pointless as Ed Snowden's revelations suggest that the UK and US government are 'hoovering' all our digital information.
You need to evaluate what this means for democracy in the digital world. What does this behaviour tell us about the government's attitude towards its own countryfolk? Is this similar to China's attitude??
THis is a big section of the essay Josh as it is a key media issue and debate when considering the protection of data and private security on the web. You need to find some relevant Snowden quotes.

YEAR 12 LESSON FORTY/FORTY-ONE [ 3rd/6th March 15]: Homework.

We are still using lesson time to construct COURSEWORK. Most students are clearly producing some magnificent work but a minority of the class really need to start producing media. I am 'DONE' with listening to ideas. Talk is meaningless. I now want to see print media , broadcast media and evidence of research. Sooo...on Tuesday students need to:
  • SHOW ME EVIDENCE OF RESEARCH.
  • STUDENTS CONSTRUCTING WEBSITES NEED TO POST ME THE ACTIVE LINK TO THE SITE.
  • I WANT TO SEE EVIDENCE OF PRINT MEDIA. I WANT TO SEE TEXT AND IMAGE. DON'T SHOW ME A PHOTOGRAPH...I WANT TO SEE PRINT MEDIA.
A couple of students are beginning to worry me so stop talking...and DO.

HOMEWORK: Construct coursework.

YEAR 13 LESSON 41/42/43/44 [23rd/26th Feb/2nd/5th March 15]: Homework.

It is all about the coursework folks. I need to see examples of print media, critical investigations, broadcast media and websites. KEEP ME IN THE LOOP. Lots of work to be done.
HOMEWORK: COURSEWORK. STUDENTS SHOULD BE THINKING, CREATING, AND WRITING. THIS IS A MASSIVELY IMPORTANT MOMENT. REMEMBER...COURSEWORK IS 50% OF YOUR FINAL A2 GRADE.

YEAR 12 LESSON 38/39 [24th/27th Feb]: Homework

WE are using these sessions to construct coursework. I now need to see examples of print media and broadcast media. If students are struggling to organise broadcast media, they need to show me examples of print media. If students are constructing e-media...they need to send me the working link. I also want to see evidence of research.

Marnie...here are some examples of the layering that we discussed on Friday...The Photography needs to be creative...

Hannah...here is an old example of STILL IMAGES used in a cop drama introduction:
The Sweeney intro:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D99O6oTJVHo
I know it not the 'horror' genre but it is possible to create a sense of dramatic tension using only still images. Not sure if this helps!!
