WINGS OF LUNESTA ADVERTISEMENT: How not to reassure your consumers.

This advertisement was created to advertise a sleeping pill manufactured by a pharmaceutical company in the USA. The voiceover is terrifying. I will definitely be using this resource in future AS/A2 sessions. SLEEP TIGHT. Click on link below:

Charlie Brooker used this resource on Channel Four's The 10 O'Clock Show.

YEAR 12 LESSON TWENTY-THREE [20th March 12]: Homework.

Students were asked to consider whether the texts used for the cross-media study are merely marketing tools. This was a response to the last cross-media essay as student question focus was poor and the aim of this task was to make sure that students are aware that this task requires a very specific question focus. The session moved on to consider the skills required for Mest1 Section A. Click on link below to access text:

The final 30 minutes of the session asked students to produce a written response to three questions:
1. How are media forms used to attract the attention of the viewer?
2.How is the viewer represented within this text?
3.'These texts are merely marketing tools'. To what extent is this true of your cross-media study?

VIRAL VIDEO: Impact of Digital Media Resource.

Lots of issues relating to the impact of digital media can be linked to this viral video. This is a superb resource for A2 media students. The Invisible Children Charity has suffered a series of critical attacks and some media institutions have questioned the validity of the charity. Some have even accused the charity of being a 'scam'. What is undeniable is that this issue is an example of the power of digital media. We will be discussing the media issues and debates linked to this viral film when we return to our conventional media sessions:

YEAR 12 LESSON TWENTY-ONE [6th March 12]: Homework.

Students discussed the Cross-Media question:
CONSIDER THE ROLE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY IN YOUR CASE STUDY. HOW HAS IT ENHANCED AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT AND ACTIVITY?
  • Evaluate how new technologies have been used in the media products from your case study to allow audiences to become more active consumers and/or producers.
  • Support your answer with reference to a range of examples from three media platforms.
Students discussed possible content that could be applied to this question. Before the end of the first session students were encouraged to enjoy the warmth of the beautiful Spring sunshine and appreciate the majesty of nature.

The second session involved work aimed at developing skills that will be required for MEST1 Section A. The class were offered the resource below.Click on link:
Students were asked the following questions:
  1. How is the media text constructed to engage the audience?
  2. How is alcohol represented in this text?
  3. What is the aim of the institution when offering this text?
Class discussion explored possible content before students produced a 40 minute written response.

HOMEWORK: Students should be feverishly constructing coursework. The deadline is March 27th. Furthermore, the next lesson will involve producing a timed response to the Cross-Media Study question that we discussed in today's session. Students need to create an essay structure that will allow them to produce a decent response.

I encourage all students to be aware of this Cross-Media revision resource that I created for Year 12 last year. Click on link below:
