WHY EGYPT'S DIGITAL UPRISING IS DIFFERENT: Time Magazine article.
A2 students should be aware of how digital media is being used as a weapon in the struggle for democratic freedom. The following articles deal with issues that are relevant to MEST 3 and relate to the idea of controlling internet access. The US government have already discussed the idea of creating a 'KILL SWITCH' that terminates internet access in times of civil unrest. Egypt attempted a similar action during the recent demonstrations. I urge students to read the following articles and consider the content alongside our discussions that relate to the topic of media and democracy.
